7 Ways to Cultivate Daily Faith Habits

October 30, 20253 min read

In a world full of distractions, growing closer to Christ can feel like a challenge. But deep faith doesn’t require grand gestures- it is cultivated through small, intentional habits that draw us into God’s presence every day. At Suscipe, we believe that through these small daily actions, you will become attuned to God’s presence in your life and become equipped to live out Christ’s will for your life in your home, parish & community. Whether you are just starting out or looking to deepen your faith, these seven practical habits will help you cultivate a vibrant spiritual life rooted in prayer, purpose, and action.

  1. Schedule Your Prayer Time
Commit to a specific time and place for prayer. Write it down or add it to your calendar to make it stick. A tangible plan makes follow-through much easier.

  2. Stack New Habits on Old Ones
Build on habits you already have! Think of something you do every day… like brushing your teeth, or making your bed. Pair this action with another habit, like saying a prayer for a family member while you do the action, or reading the daily Gospel right after.

  3. Ora et Labora: Pray and Work
The Benedictine phrase Ora Et Labora, which is Latin for “pray and work,” reminds us to connect the spiritual with the physical. After prayer, consider finding something simple and perhaps repetitive to do. This could be washing dishes, walking, or folding laundry. These activities can help open your heart and mind to contemplation.

  4. Ask for God’s Grace
Don’t forget to ask God’s help, even with small goals. Try a simple prayer: “Lord, I want to fall more and more in love with you. Give me the grace to open my heart and life up to you.” This small act can transform your efforts in a beautiful way.

  5. Curate Your Environment!
Your surroundings can have a big impact on your heart & mind. Add sacred art to your space, like an icon or a cross. Clean up your social media feeds- or delete them if they distract you. Spend time with people who draw you closer to Christ, not into temptation.

  6. Seek Accountability
Find a mentor or a friend to walk with you in your faith. Share with them what you’ve been experiencing and invite them to walk with you, pray for you, and keep you accountable.

  7. Embrace Your Current Vocation
As Thomas à Kempis writes in The Imitation of Christ, “Every time you leave your cell you come back less a person.” When we stray from our commitments, vocation & duties, we are failing to live out what God has called us to do. The holiness God is calling us to can be found in the little things we are called to do every day. It can be found in our studies, in our family life, and in our daily work.

God invites us to encounter Him in the ordinary moments of our lives. By utilizing these seven strategies, you can nurture a faith that can withstand all seasons. Start small and stay consistent, trusting that God is working through your efforts, and he is the one who placed this desire to be close to Him in your heart.
